It seems standard practice now when contenders for show business glory enter one of the "Nancy"-style programmes that they should be ritually humiliated almost weekly, as a compere will screw every ounce of tension out of someone's expulsion, while the magisterial Llloyd Webber is quite literally enthroned on high.
But those are the times we live in. I just have the one reflection. Are all of these "Nancies" in fact treated any worse than contenders for teaching and clerical jobs with some of the Welsh county councils in the 1960s and 70s?!
